# Client setup

> Add a client, connect an exchange and prepare a stopped bot.

The setup window takes you from a client name to an exchange account and a stopped bot. You can use a suggested Spot Market Making setup or enter the settings yourself.

> [!NOTE]
>
> The screenshots use an example client and test data. Saving an API key does not confirm that it works. The connection check happens after the account is created.

## 1. Add your client

Open **Clients** and choose **Add client**. Enter the project or client name.

* **Guide me through it** adds goal-based settings for Spot Market Making.
* **I will run it myself** opens the usual bot settings.

The client's price source starts with **Market**. Open the price-source section if you need a different reference. This becomes the default for that client's accounts.

Choose how much help you want. Both paths use the same account and bot settings.

See [Price source](https://docs.ansio.trade/spot/price-source.md) for the available references.

## 2. Connect an exchange

Choose a key already saved for this client, or select **Add API key**.

**1. Open the exchange's API settings**

Choose the exchange in ANSIO, then use the **Open API settings** link. It opens in a new tab.

**2. Choose permissions**

Enable account reading and trading for the market you intend to use: Spot or Futures. Leave withdrawals and transfers off. Permission names differ between exchanges.

**3. Restrict the key to ANSIO's trading server IPs**

Copy the addresses shown in the setup window into the exchange's IP whitelist.

If the window says the list is unavailable, request the addresses from [ops@ansio.trade](mailto:ops@ansio.trade) before saving the exchange key. Your own IP and the IP behind the ANSIO website are not substitutes for the trading server addresses.

**4. Save the key in ANSIO**

Paste the API key, secret and any additional field requested for that exchange. Give the connection a name you will recognise, then select **Save key**.

Keep the secret out of chat messages and support screenshots.

The exchange link, permissions and IP instructions sit above the credential fields.

The form saves the connection details first. A successful save is not a balance or trading test.

## 3. Choose the pair and settings

Choose the market, exchange, API key, base coin and quote currency. For example, `TEST/USDT` uses TEST as the base coin and USDT as the quote currency.

### Guided Spot Market Making

The guided path offers two starting points:

> [card] Keep both sides quoted
>
> Places bid and ask levels using a selected share of each available balance.

> [card] Support a depth zone
>
> Adds Depth Support with a target on each side inside your chosen price zone.

You can change the suggested values before applying them.

| Setting | Starting value | What it means |
| - | - | - |
| Total spread offset | 1% | Adds 0.5% on each side of the selected price reference. It is not a guarantee of the resulting market spread. |
| Balance to use | 20% | Uses 20% of the available quote balance for bids and 20% of the token balance for asks. |
| Levels per side | 10 | Ten bid levels and ten ask levels. |
| Level step | 0.25% | The step passed to the native Market Making settings. |
| Depth zone | ±2% | Used by the depth preset only. |
| Target per side | 100 in the quote currency | Used by the depth preset only; it is a target, not an additional deposit or balance. |

For example, a depth target of **300 USDT per side within ±2%** asks Depth Support to work towards that amount on each side in that zone. Available funds, the pair's minimum order size and exchange precision still limit what can be placed.

Choose **Apply to MM settings** to put the values into the actual bot form. Open **Full settings** to inspect or change them. Review also applies a changed preset if you have not applied it yet.

> [!NOTE]
>
> These are starting settings, not a forecast of returns. The preset does not replace the native risk controls. Review the balance limits and what the bot should do when a limit is reached.

See [Market Making](https://docs.ansio.trade/spot/market-making.md), [Depth Support](https://docs.ansio.trade/spot/depth-support.md) and [Inventory and risk](https://docs.ansio.trade/spot/inventory-risk.md).

### Manual setup and Futures

The manual path keeps the normal strategy fields. Choose the strategies you need and fill in their settings.

The guided presets above apply only to **Spot Market Making**. Futures uses its own settings; the wizard does not apply the Spot preset to it. See [Futures quoting](https://docs.ansio.trade/futures/quoting.md).

## 4. Review before creating

Select **Review setup**. The review shows the client, exchange, pair, strategy, price source and main settings. Expand **All settings to save** for the full list.

Use **Back to settings** to change anything. Your entries remain in the form.

![ANSIO setup review showing order levels, allocated balances, spread offsets and Depth Support](https://mintcdn.com/ansio/yTMTPYvx5IcqqKBH/images/docs/setup-review.jpg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=yTMTPYvx5IcqqKBH\&q=85\&s=39568b58c1dcc9a9cb0626b6b03ca54e)

Review the actual values that will be saved. Creating the bot does not start it.

Select **Create stopped bot** when the details are correct.

## 5. Read the connection result

ANSIO now asks the trading system for a fresh balance snapshot for the new account.

The result shows the base and quote balances, including available and locked amounts, and the snapshot time. A stale or missing result is not shown as a successful connection. Use **Check balances** after correcting a connection issue.

A balance check confirms that account data can be read. It does not prove that order placement is permitted. The separate **Test transaction** action on the API Keys page can place an order and may result in a fill; the setup wizard does not run it automatically.

Open the account to inspect its settings and balances. Starting the bot is a separate action.

## If a step needs attention

| What you see | What to do |
| - | - |
| The server IP list is unavailable | Ask operations for the trading server whitelist. Do not replace it with the website's IP. |
| No compatible API key | Check the selected client, exchange and market. Add a key with the required permissions for that combination. |
| Balance check has not completed | Keep the bot stopped and retry. If it continues, check the trading system connection and contact support with the account name and time. |
| No fresh balances | Check that the key is active, account reading is allowed and the trading server IP is whitelisted. Retry after the exchange has applied the change. |
| Balances load but orders are rejected later | Check trading permissions, available funds, the pair, minimum order size and precision. A successful read check does not verify these. |
| The requested depth is not reached | Compare the target with available balances and exchange order limits. Review the Depth Support settings. |
| Review asks you to correct the preset | Use positive values and the allowed input ranges. The depth zone must extend beyond the per-side offset. |

## Closing and continuing later

A saved client, key or stopped account remains saved when you close the window. Reopening Add client in the same page can resume the unfinished setup.

After a page reload, use the existing client and its saved API key rather than creating duplicates. See [Clients and roles](https://docs.ansio.trade/workspace/clients-roles.md).
